The Terminal

The Wyse 160e Terminal consists of a 14" mono black and white CRT, attached keyboard and three ports on the back:

  • DB25 female serial port, maximum speed 115200
  • DB25 female parallel port
  • DB9 Male serial port, maximum speed 19200

To connect it to a host requires a correctly wired null-modem cable that supports either DTR/CTS or XON/XOFF (there is also the option for no flow control).

When first powered on the terminal beeps once, displays a test pattern and then attempts to connect to the configured serial port. There is a 'Setup' key on the keyboard which takes you into the main configuration of the terminal. All the terminal's settings are stored in NVRAM that is battery backed up. I am unsure how long the battery lasts or how to replace it.

The terminal's keyboard is a standard QWERTY keyboard with the shift and ctrl keys transposed. Function keys go up to 16 and there is a separate numeric keypad. Fortunately the keyboard also contains arrow keys. It is connected to the terminal using a mini RJ11 jack.
