We got our colocated machine back, and I’m now attempting to turn
it into our new office server. The poor thing is a bit ill though,
it’s one of those Abit dual-celeron boards and keeps going strange.
The latest weird thing is for it to not reboot, or to deny the
existance of any graphics card.

At the same time I’m turning our old office server into a firewall.
And to compound things I took my workstation apart to test broken
graphics cards.

I’ve now managed to make ISAPnP, ISDN, and LILO work and know more
about the way your PC’s BIOS mishandles booting devices than I
thought existed.

During the weekend I went for a ride on my bike and ended up
trying to ride through a peat-bog, which is quite impossible and
involved me sinking up to my shins in thick ooze.

Sometime, this site will get updated.

After a bit of bother with DNS (UKShells, my shell provider had a DNS entry making my mail work, but the rest of the planet didn’t seem to agree, so mail went to our - now disabled - colocated machine) and a bit of fiddling with QMail, my domain has now moved.

In a while I’ll get round to uploading my new website code. I’m also making Xine (a rather good DVD player for X that works with Creative DXR3 cards) do fullscreen properly. And learning XEmacs at the same time (of all the X-aware/based texteditors I’ve used, XEmacs seems to be the best. I tried [glimmer.sourceforge.net Glimmer] and it’s not bad, but a little slow).

It’s been raining, then sunny, then raining, then sunny all week. It’s currently sunny, although it rained a bit this morning.

This site now lives in a shell account. This is great because I don’t lose any functionality, and it’s not my problem if the machine breaks down.

Piku is moving house. Already my mail appears to have gone strange while DNS updates. This site might go away and be replaced with something strange (directory listing, Apache welcome message, whatever).

Once everything’s sorted out I’ll put everything back to normal. Might even put my new site up here!
