Fog and more motorway driving

May 27th, 2008 | No Comments | Filed in Personal, Technology

It’s pretty foggy out there. I’ve just been ‘over the border’ (between Yorkshire and Lancashire) along the M62 to visit Steve to sort out some things we’re doing. The weather wasn’t so bad when I left, just the usual drizzle and rain, but over the tops it’s a near whiteout. Coming back in the dark was a slow and difficult affair, playing the game of ’spot the red lights’ and avoiding the trucks.

Steve’s local pub has wifi, and also a rather poorly chosen password on the router. We did the slightly poncy thing of installing Visual Studio on my Macbook in VirtualBox while eating our tea.

Spontaneous Cookery

May 20th, 2008 | No Comments | Filed in Personal

What do you do with half a loaf of slightly hard, stale bread that’s been sitting in the back of the fridge for two weeks? Throw it out? Give it to the birds?

No, you first tip it onto a plate to check for mould, and then make a bread and butter pudding from it.

If you make it correctly, the eggy milk should turn into a sort of egg-custard mix when cooked.

Follow the link to see the recipe (although if you can’t work out how to turn bread, butter, eggs and milk into something edible you shouldn’t go into a kitchen ;) http://www.piku.org.uk/drupal/content/bread-and-butter-pudding

Ice Cream Sunday

May 18th, 2008 | No Comments | Filed in Personal

This afternoon me and Amy went to the Blyton Dairy Ice cream parlour. It’s quite a random place, being in the small village of Blyton half way between Scunthorpe and Lincoln. Quite why people would bother driving all the way there just to have an ice cream is slightly baffling, but then again when you have the chance to eat pretty much any flavour of ice cream, it’s not an unpleasant experience :) The line of people waiting to be served an evident sign that the place is popular. If it were in the Lake District the line would loop twice around the building.

I had a double cone with ginger ice cream and Turkish Delight flavoured ice cream in it. The ginger had actual pieces of ginger in it and was really nice.

While it’s slightly odd driving so far just to buy an ice cream, it was a great afternoon out in the sun :)

Bank Holiday BBQ

May 5th, 2008 | No Comments | Filed in Personal

It’s May Bank Holiday - the traditional time to either spend hours in your car going somewhere, a day lying in the sun, or having a barbequeue. Traditionally the day is supposed to start with the exclamation of “oh great, it’s raining”. Not today though.

Me and Amy went to visit our good friend Beerman for the day for a Texmex barbequeue. There was plenty of meat, lovingly prepared earlier that morning by the one and only MetalChef, Johnny.

There was also fire…

I must make a mental note to hide anything flammable the next time Amy comes round to visit ;)

Autopsy

May 3rd, 2008 | No Comments | Filed in Personal

Kippers… Why?! They look so nice sitting in their vacuum packs, with the little star-shaped blob of “butter” mushed into the slices. Two minutes in a microwave and this bone-ridden salty mess can be yours to pick at.

Turn your mealtimes into an autopsy with a kipper! Try not to spit out chunks of boney meat, and I hope you chew properly before swallowing.

And whatever you do, don’t get the juice on you, it won’t go away for days.

From Random

Pink fairy cakes I bought in Sainsbury’s. I’ve eaten four, but two are going to be given to a certain Pink Fearie when I see her tomorrow.

Curry Club

January 24th, 2008 | No Comments | Filed in Personal

Tonight was the meeting of our school “curry club”. It’s an after school club where we go out to a different curryhouse each time and consume the finest spicy brown foods. The place we went to had broken heating and was quite empty. The food was good though and I don’t think I’ll need to eat until Saturday :)

Voice has mostly come back, green goo is less lumpy, and the cough is starting to drive me insane. I blow my nose, stuff comes out. Then I need to do it again, and again, then a coughing/retching fit starts up. Or I have a random nosebleed.

Being ill is fun, you should try it. I have a headache from coughing so much and my nose is sore from blowing it all the time.

What I got for Christmas

December 27th, 2007 | No Comments | Filed in Personal

Inspired by a post I read here… (coincidentally that site has the same theme as mine, but I hand created this from the original HTML templates)

Compared to last year, this Christmas has been much more relaxed and hassle free. For a start I wasn’t kept awake all Christmas eve with neighbours playing loud dance music. I went to my parents this year, taking along a variety of presents for them.

My Grandma got a cordless phone for her house, my sister a Boot’s voucher, my dad a DVD and me and my sister bought my mum a new jacket.

I got £80 worth of Ikea gift vouchers (only now they’re those daft giftcards instead) and various random items such as a shaving set, pyjamas and more chocolate and biscuits than I could ever consume. Not that it didn’t stop me from trying of course! In fact eating was quite a big part of Christmas this year, I don’t think I stopped for two days. On Christmas Eve we went out for a meal with my Grandma as it’s her birthday, then on Christmas Day we had a goose. In between these two meals was a constant stream of nuts, crisps and chocolates. Never since the time I had an all-expenses paid trip with work have I stuffed myself so much.
