WYSE Dumb Terminal
I have a WYSE 160 text terminal that displays serial data fed into either of its two serial ports. There is also a parallel port, presumably for connecting to printers allowing people to print to a printer on their desk, rather than one connected directly to the server. This mini book explains how I made it work with my Linux server, and what I can use it for.
It was my aim to connect this terminal to my Linux server so that I could use it for logging in. This was a fairly straight forward task, Linux being designed to communicate with serial terminals by default; the virtual consoles being no different to actual dumb terminals of 20 years ago. Even the terminal console in Mac OSX is simply a software version of these old hardware devices.
